Chamois comes up short in overtime

Marion County wins quarterfinal contest

MOBERLY, Mo. - The Chamois Lady Pirates had the champ on the ropes, but they couldn't quite deliver the knockout punch.

Chamois had Marion County, the defending Class 1 state girls basketball champion that was riding a 59-game winning streak, down for much of the night in a quarterfinal contest Saturday night at Moberly Area Community College.

In fact, with the game tied at the end of regulation, the Lady Pirates had a 3-pointer to win it come up short.

But when the dust finally settled, its was the Lady Mustangs who emerged with a 58-52 win in overtime.

"It's just a matter of the ball bouncing one way or the other in regulation," Chamois coach Marty Gerloff said.
