ATF: Blaze at fireworks plant called an accident

DITTMER, Mo. (AP) - The fire that injured three workers at an eastern Missouri fireworks company is being classified as an accident.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Thursday that the specific action that started the fire has not been determined.

An explosion occurred at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday at Global Pyrotechnic Solutions in Dittmer in Jefferson County, south of St. Louis. The three injured workers were assembling fireworks when the fire broke out.

The company has said that raw materials used to manufacture a component of one of the products ignited. One of the three workers suffered severe burns and is hospitalized at Mercy Hospital in suburban St. Louis. Two other employees were treated and released from a hospital in Fenton.
