Many individuals can identify specific points within their careers that serve as justification for the time invested in pursuit of their chosen profession.

In the case of Command Sgt. Maj. Jim Schulte, service in Afghanistan while training a fledgling army and a new breed of farmers was the capstone to an already successful career.

Schulte began his extensive military career in 1970 when he enlisted in the Army Reserve shortly after his graduation from Hazelwood High School near St. Louis.

"I came from a very patriotic family that believed everyone should serve this nation," Schulte said.
