Space camp was a blast

Wearing a white spacesuit and helmet, she helped her team build a solar array in a neutra-buoyancy chair and install oxygen tanks in a space shuttle simulation.

And she graduated after six days in the astronaut's traditional blue jumpsuit.

That's space camp.

Melanie Thompson, a fifth-grade teacher at East Elementary School, was able to scratch that one off her "bucket list" when she was one of 86 educators selected from more than 1,000 applicants to attend the workshop in Huntsville, Ala.
