Members of the Footprints Project Dance Team practice their "In The Hood" routine Thursday for the Juneteenth celebration on Saturday. They will be dancing a combination of modern, gospel, tap, jazz and African dance.

On stage in Richardson Auditorium, they carried baskets and moved to a West African beat. In the dance studio of Mitchell Hall, they watched themselves in the mirror as they reached and twisted to Michael Jackson's hip-hop sounds.

About 20 youth have learned "In the Hood," an original choreographed work, at the Footprints Project's Dance and Fitness Camp this week at Lincoln University. They will perform at the 11th annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival Saturday at Riverside/Ellis-Porter Park.

The free camp, directed by professional performer Ledell Watts, is new to the local Juneteenth commemoration this year.
