JCPD deals with barricaded man

At 4:16 p.m. Wednesday, Jefferson City police officers and the Jefferson City Police Department SWAT team responded to an apartment in the 2200 block of Weathered Rock Road in response to an individual threatening to harm himself with a weapon.

The subject, a 61 year old Jefferson City resident, called Jefferson City 9-1-1 and told the operator he was upset and wanted police officers to come to his residence.

While still on the phone with 9-1-1 the man became agitated and threatened to do harm to himself. He refused to come outside and contact officers so the negotiation process continued with the 9-1-1 operator.

The man said he was armed, but did not threaten the officers on the scene.

At 6:58 p.m. the subject agreed to come out of the house, unarmed, and contact officers. He exited the residence and surrendered himself to the SWAT officers without incident.

A search of the residence turned up two handguns inside. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No charges are anticipated at this time.
