State Sen. Bob Dixon said last week he will refile his proposed Constitutional amendment, to make legislative redistricting a more transparent and accountable process, for next year's lawmakers to consider.
He proposed a similar amendment this year, that passed the Senate on a 32-0 vote but never was debated on the House floor.
Dixon said in a news release he plans to refile the proposed amendment "to address lingering issues with the state's redistricting process," after last month's Missouri Supreme Court ruling that the process and the final map redrawing the state's House of Representatives districts didn't violate the state Constitution.
Under the current Constitutional requirements, after the U.S. Census reports the new, official population numbers every 10 years, the two major political parties recommend names to the governor, who then names two bipartisan commissions to draw the new lines for the state House and Senate districts.
