Salute to America features new activities, acts, venues

Roller Derby in the street, radio-controlled race car tracks on the blacktop, tricks and stunts on a variety of wheeled inventions - instead of one big "wow," the 2012 Salute to America: A Capitol Celebration should be a full day of activity.

In its ninth year under the control of the Salute to America Foundation, the event has expanded into a new block of downtown Jefferson City with the relocation of the Cole County Sheriff's Department.

And, since Independence Day falls on a Wednesday this year, the festivities will begin the evening of July 3 with the Salute to Heroes Parade, led by the grand marshals from the Jefferson City Fire Department representing each of the military branches.
