Area man killed in crash on US 54

An Eldon man died from his injuries following a two-car crash Monday afternoon in Cole County.

Missouri Highway Patrol reports show Mindy Melton, 27, Rich Hill, began to cross the lanes of westbound U.S. 54 at Buffalo Road around 2:42 p.m. when she was struck in the side by a vehicle driven by Jerry Moody, 76, Eldon.

Moody was taken to Capital Region Medical Center where he later died.

U.S. 54 was shut down so a Staff For Life helicopter could land and take Melton to University of Missouri hospital in Columbia for treatment.

As of Monday evening, she was listed in serious condition.

A passenger in the Moody vehicle, Judith Moody, 70, Eldon, was also taken to University Hospital and was listed in serious condition Monday evening.

Melton and Judith Moody were wearing seat belts. Jerry Moody was not.
