Your Opinion: Response to Reichel on government spending

July 19th, 2012 by Steven Brown, Holts Summit in News

Dear Editor:

Only a liberal Democrat like Dale Reichel could accuse the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution as being extremists. Gosh, that Fox news must really be toxic.

Reichel's editorial opinion, (which is exactly what it is because it had no real facts), in the July 13 paper was about because I say it, it must be so. How Obama can you get?

We all benefit from government programs he says. Well guess what, we now have 1.65 workers supporting every 1 (yes that is a 1.65 to 1 ratio) that is on some government welfare program. How can that be sustainable? He goes on to say the recession was "engineered." The unemployment now stands closer to 14 percent than what is being reported. That comrade is closer to a depression than a recession.

Big business is "sitting" on trillions of dollars, Reichel says. Number one, it's their money. Number two with Obama having a possibility of re-election, they will keep sitting on it because of his policies. Enough said with it's their money! What would you have them do with it Reichel, redistribute it?

You go on to say Medicare and Social Security "maybe need some fine tuning." They are rapidly going broke, just how naïve are you?

Please refer to the 1.65 information above. People should be allowed to invest some of their own money which is what you refer to as "privatization." The military does not use 25 percent of our energy; it is 25 percent of our budget. Thank God for them, money well spent, they earn it, unlike so much of the budget spent on free riders. That 25 percent benefits 100 percent of this country. What other part of the budget does that?

There is no doubt that Obama and Mr. Reichel are socialist. Winston Churchill said it best. "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Last but not least, how shallow of you to assume that a TV show like Fox News can be that influential. Maybe it is just your lot, but people I know make their own decisions not based on race or political party.
