Grandmother sentenced to prison for harming infant

A Jefferson City woman has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a first-degree charge of endangering the welfare of a child for feeding a blood thinner to a 1-year-old girl.

According to court documents, Terri Chilton, 44, of 720 Route T, committed the crime in January 2010.

A police department probable cause statement shows Chilton is the maternal grandmother of the victim.

Chilton confessed to trying to deceive the child's parents, who were in the process of divorcing, and to giving the baby the blood thinner in hopes they would reunite because they had a sick child. The statement also shows that because of her state of mind, Chilton admitted herself to an inpatient mental health facility.
