Homes evacuated in possible standoff

Police blocked off streets Wednesday evening in an eastern Jefferson City neighborhood where they believed a man might be barricaded inside his home.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker said police evacuated some nearby homes around 6:40 p.m. shortly after officers responded to the residence in the 200 block of Indian Meadows Drive. Officers also blocked off several streets in the area, including parts of St. Louis Road and Mohawk Drive.

When officers tried to enter the home to check on the well-being of the resident, whom they believed might be armed, they found the door barricaded and could not gain immediate entry. Officers remained on the scene throughout the evening, but they also had widened their attempt to locate the resident to other locations in the city.
