Jefferson City has started taking action against those who refuse the city's mandatory trash service from Allied Waste.

City Counselor Drew Hilpert said the city issued 71 summonses at the end of May to residences that were documented as being without the mandatory trash bins in a survey done that month. He said the survey was not citywide and the portion done represents roughly a quarter of the city.

Hilpert said a vast number of those summoned took care of the issue before the scheduled court date at the end of June.
