School board to discuss professional development for teachers

As students return to school this fall, their teachers also have some renewed study times set aside to help them improve their work.

On Monday, the seven-member Jefferson City Board of Education will be asked to discuss the professional development plan proposed for the 2012-13 school year and then approve it.

Superintendent Brian Mitchell told a reporter that longer school years and better teacher preparation are among the reasons students from several other nations do better in their studies than American students.
