Hot, dry conditions mean fewer people are celebrating the Fourth of July with a bang, and that's causing area fireworks sales to fizzle.

The only three fireworks tents that can legally sell fireworks inside the city limits report sales are down this year. They're located near the intersection of West Edgewood Drive and West Stadium Boulevard.

"People are sticking to the simpler fireworks. They're shying away from some of the larger aerial items," said Tyler Dunn of Hale's Fireworks.

George Welling of Jefferson City, who was shopping at Hale's with his daughter Shelby, said they were sticking to smaller items like snakes, sparklers and party poppers.

"We bought the safe stuff that's not going to burn down your backyard or your neighbor's yard," he said.
