ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - Jeannie Marmaud was desperate. The St. Joseph woman's husband, John, was dying of cancer and was craving a sandwich.
And not just any sandwich - a tuna, lettuce and onion sandwich from the chain Jimmy Johns.
The St. Joseph News-Press (http://bit.ly/O6P3Z6 ) reported that the request posed a problem because Marmaud doesn't have a car and lives outside the delivery area.
One pleading call later, and the sandwich was headed to her home. When she tried to pay, the delivery driver refused her money. She recalls being told, "No, you have enough going on."
Marmaud says the sandwich was probably the last real meal her husband had. After he died June 15, she called and thanked the store's owner, Kristin Duke.
Says Duke, "I'm glad we could do that for her."
