SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A judge says the Springfield school district and Greene County Sheriff's department did not violate students' rights by using a police dog to look for drugs at a high school.
Springfield City Councilman Doug Burlison and his wife sued the district and sheriff's office after the April 22, 2010 search at Central High School. They alleged it involved was an unreasonable search and seizure and violated their son's privacy rights.
In a decision made public Monday, U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr found in favor of the district and sheriff's office on all counts. He said the procedures used by the sheriff's office and school district are reasonable and don't deprive anyone of their rights.
An attorney for the Burlisons says the ruling might provide a reason for an appeal.
