MO woman accused of abandoning infant in MN woods

GAYLORD, Minn. (AP) - A Missouri woman has been returned to Minnesota to face accusations that she left her newborn baby in some woods to die shortly after giving birth in 2001.

Amy Ann Romero is being held in Sibley County on $250,000 conditional bail. She was arrested in Milan, Mo., last week after being indicted on first-degree murder charges in Sibley County District Court.

The indictment unsealed Thursday reveals few details about what happened a decade ago. It only says Romero, now 29, gave birth to a child identified as Ava Juanita Aune on April 28, 2001 and hours later left her to die in some woods near her home in Henderson. The child did not survive.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/yhtY3S) says a grand jury was convened in Gaylord earlier this month.
