"Target stickers' still being probed

Law officers continued their investigation Wednesday into the small, orange "target crosshairs" stickers that appeared Tuesday outside the doors of a half-dozen Missouri state lawmakers.

But Public Safety Department spokesman Mike O'Connell made no statement on their progress.

During the continuing debate on a bill that would change Missouri's workplace discrimination laws, several senators talked about the stickers' effect on their mood - how they were upset, frustrated and angry.

But like everyone else, they had no new information about who might have placed the stickers on the hallway nameplates of five Senate Democrats and one House Republican - on three different floors of the four-story state Capitol.

Senate Administrator Jim Howerton said no one had told him any new information.

The Capitol Police and Highway Patrol both were asked to investigate the stickers, which raised concerns for some because they suggested the lawmakers might be targeted for some kind of violence, because of stands they have taken on pending legislation.
