Officials: $57 million raised toward Arch project

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Some $57 million has been raised toward the project to revitalize the Gateway Arch grounds and the St. Louis riverfront - about one-tenth of the total estimated cost for the project.

Leaders of the CityArchRiver 2015 Foundation outlined details of the plan Wednesday. It isn't clear how much of the work will actually be done by 2015, but officials say the key elements will be in place by then.

The biggest change will be a pedestrian walkway over Interstate 70 that will make it easier to move between the Arch grounds and the rest of downtown.

Committed money so far includes $22 million in federal grants, $25 million from the Missouri Department of Transportation and $10 million in private donations. The total cost of project is estimated at $553 million.
