One week after admitting to authorities that he fatally stabbed and shot his Holts Summit grandmother during an argument, Ryan Wayne Koebel will appear before Callaway Judicial Circuit Judge Carol England on a string of charges that include murder and multiple counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.
Koebel, 17, has his initial appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at the Callaway County Courthouse. He is charged with one count first-degree murder, three counts first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and four counts armed criminal action.
According to the probable cause statement, Koebel - who lived with his grandparents - had a dispute with his grandmother, Karen K. Cates, 60, on the morning of Jan. 20.
"Koebel reported ... that in the course of the dispute he stabbed her two times," the probable cause statement reads. "Koebel reported that he then located the .38 caliber handgun and then shot his grandmother several times."
