Summaries of Retail and Angel Network projects

If passed, Transformation would seek to encourage entrepreneurial and retail growth in the area through three separate projects. From studying the Capital Mall to providing support to start-up companies and young professionals, the initiative tries to attract and keep businesses and business owners in Jefferson City.

• Retail, community marketing, smartphone app

What would it do? It would develop a smartphone application to connect visitors and residents with attractions in Jefferson City. It also would employ real-time parking information and include retail attractions to bring business to locally owned stores and shops.

What would it cost? $25,000

• Retail marketing, Capital Mall incentive study

What would it do? It would identify new strategies to increase pedestrian traffic and tenant occupancy within the Capital Mall, partnering with mall management to find areas of concern, solutions and funding mechanisms.

• Angel Network

What would it do? It would form a not-for-profit entity focusing specifically on early-stage startup companies and existing companies with the capacity for growth. It would connect entrepreneurs with local investors to gain access to capital and business advice. Representatives of the Jefferson City chapter of SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to education entrepreneurs and helping small businesses, as well as the University of Missouri Extension office would work with potential entrepreneurs on business plans and presentations to the Angel Network. All applications for capital would be reviewed by a five-member review committee.
