A couple days ago I found out about a bill called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) which deals with the government and its effort to reduce piracy on the Internet. At first this bill sounded like a good idea, but the more I looked into it the more I realized the consequences its passing could have.
It would give the government the power to shut down any website and restrict domain names. Companies like Google, Facebook and YouTube will be put at serious risk because all content on their sites would be their responsibility.
This means they would be forced to censor everything, which I feel greatly prohibits my rights as a U.S. citizen.
Will the supposed "representatives" in D.C. really chose the rights of media companies over we the people? Why does this bill have so much support in Congress when millions have expressed their opposition to it?
