Fitzwater, Todd will run in 49th District

The decision of Rep. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane, to run for the newly created 7th District Missouri Senate seat rather than seeking re-election already has created a primary election contest for the Callaway County area she now represents in the General Assembly.

Two Republicans have indicated they plan to file for the newly created 49th Missouri House seat that includes most of Callaway County and a small part of Cole County.

On Dec. 20, Travis Fitzwater declared his intention to become a Republican candidate for the 49th District of the Missouri House that was created by legislative redistricting. The second Republican to seek the seat, Philip Todd, plans to announce his candidacy today.

The new 49th District in Callaway County includes Fulton, Mokane, New Bloomfield and Holts Summit. The new Callaway County district also crosses the Missouri River and has about 1,800 residents in Cole County. It includes a small area of Cole County just northwest of Jefferson City.
