There are many phrases grossly overused in today's culture. "Once in a lifetime" has to be near the top of that list.
Whether in advertising or politics it's frequently an exaggeration to suggest that if missed this "opportunity" will never be available again.
I am writing to publicly suggest that in fact this description is completely accurate for the citizens of Jefferson City as it relates to the Transformation halfcent economic development sales tax.
I grew up in Jefferson City and have lived here more than 30 years. I believe like so many of you it is a great place to raise a family. I also believe we must take advantage of this unique opportunity to invest in the future of Jefferson City, Cole County and Central Missouri.
It's difficult to fully know the potential positive impact these resources can have on our community. However more significant is the tragedy that will be realized if we do not leverage the millions of dollars already contributed by private investors, city, county, state and federal government in the proposed areas that are part of the Transformation Plan.
Let me encourage everyone that wants a stronger economic environment and more attractive community to vote yes for City Council Ordinance 14873 on Feb. 7.
Let's not miss this true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
