Girls Basketball: Fatima Blue and Gold Tournament

WESTPHALIA, Mo. - Morgan Brandt set the all-time school record with 1,609 career points, but Fatima came up one point short Wednesday as the Lady Comets fell 75-74 to Owensville.

The contest was a semifinal game in the Fatima Blue and Gold Tournament.

Brandt scored 27 points on the night. Kate Massman added 13, and Sammey Bunch had 11 for Fatima.

The Lady Comets trailed at the end of each quarter: 16-15 after one, 35-33 after two and 53-49 after three.

In Wednesday night's first semifinal, St. James defeated Blair Oaks 79-36.

St. James, ranked No. 1 in Class 3, led 26-10 after one quarter and 46-20 at the half.

Ashlee Mariatt finished with 28 points to lead the winners. Chelsi Emerson totaled 15 to pace Blair Oaks.

St. James and Owensville will play for the tournament title at 8 p.m. Friday. The Lady Falcons (6-6) face the Lady Comets (13-2) at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the third-place contest.

In loser's bracket action, Michaela Nolte and Paige Nolte combined for 33 points as Chamois defeated the Fatima junior varsity 62-25 on Wednesday.

Michaela Nolte had 17 points, and Paige Nolte had 16. Cheyenne Hemeyer added 12 for the winners.

Chamois led 18-3 after one quarter, 31-12 at the half and 55-24 after three quarters.

The Lady Pirates (7-5) play Eugene (4-8) for fifth place at 5 p.m. Friday.

Eugene advanced with a 60-50 win Wednesday against St. Elizabeth.

The game was knotted at 16 at the end of the first quarter before Eugene took a 34-23 lead into halftime. Eugene hit 8-of-10 3-point attempts in the first half.

Katelyn Engelbrecht finished with a team-high 20 points for the Lady Eagles, while Lexi Dickerson was next with 18.

Brooke Struemph finished with career highs of 29 points and 11 rebounds for St. Elizabeth. It was her first career double-double.

St. Elizabeth (4-8) plays Monday at Russellville.
