After months of delay, the city has begun the process of redistricting, moving forward with an option that will significantly shrink the 4th Ward.
At a council work session Monday, Planning and Protective Services director Janice McMillan laid out two possible redistricting options for the council to consider.
Both options would have the most effect on the 4th Ward, which has grown the most, while the 1st Ward has seen the least growth.
The biggest difference between the two options, McMillan said is one would move the downtown area from the 2nd Ward into the 1st, an option that was opposed by 2nd Ward Councilman Rich Koon.
The council voted to proceed with the option that did not remove the downtown from the 2nd Ward, giving the staff the go ahead to begin gathering public input.
