4 heroin arrests made in five days

Last month, Jefferson City area authorities announced they would be targeting the cheap and highly addictive drug heroin due to an increase in overdoses from the drug.

Over the last five days, local authorities have made four arrests in connection with heroin use.

On Thursday, Douglas Smith, 24, 2110 Anderson Drive, was charged with selling heroin that led to an overdose.

Information was obtained that the subject had purchased heroin from Smith and had lost consciousness after injecting the heroin intravenously at Smith's house.

Smith admitted to officers he had obtained heroin from a dealer for the victim. The deal for the heroin was worth $150.
