Your Opinion: Marine veteran responds

January 6th, 2012 by Steve Diemler, Jefferson City in News

Dear Editor:

Mr. Boldt, you may question our government's policies and even subscribe to the many ludicrous and bizarre conspiracy theories as to the reasons our nation is engaged in the war against terrorism. That is your right as a citizen of the United States. But how dare you attack the honor and integrity of the thousands upon thousands of men and women who put their lives on the line in service to this great nation!

You wrote: "Every person who supported this war and families who had a member on a tour of duty should be deeply ashamed."

My father was a Marine, two of his brothers were Marines, I am a Marine veteran, and all three of my sons are Marines. Two of my sons served tours in Iraq. I will never be ashamed of my service or that of my family. I did not know my uncle Bill who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country in Korea.

Ashamed? No sir, it is you who should be ashamed.
