Akin seeks support for Senate race

After last weekend's state Republican Party Lincoln Days debate with Sarah Steelman and John Brunner in Kansas City, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin spent some time this week visiting with reporters and voters, seeking more support in his race to become Missouri's next U.S. senator.

Akin, 64, wants to replace incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill in the U.S. Senate because he thinks her leadership in Congress "has made the (economic) crisis worse, and I felt that it was necessary for her to be replaced with a conservative."

Akin, R-Wildwood, thinks his nearly 12 years of experience in the U.S. House, representing much of St. Louis, St. Charles and Lincoln counties, gives him the best chance to unseat the one-term senator.
