Three finalists lead Jays to high finish

Neighbors, Baumgartner take second for Jefferson City

COLUMBIA, Mo. - With just four individual qualifiers, Jefferson City coach Phil Cagle thought if his team wrestled really well at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Wrestling Championships, it could sneak into the top 10 in the team standings.

The Jays achieved that and a little more.

Thanks in large part to getting three wrestlers into the finals, and a state title from Jared Johnson at 195 pounds, the Jays finished in sixth place in Class 4 on Saturday night at Mizzou Arena.

The Jays nearly had two more titles, but Hunter Neighbors (120) and Cole Baumgartner (126) came up just short with losses in their respective title matches Saturday night.
