Jefferson City to consider business license penalties

The city is looking at ways to address unlicensed businesses operating in the city by imposing a stiffer penalty.

At the Administration Committee meeting Wednesday, interim Jefferson City Counselor Drew Hilpert said the city has become aware of a number of businesses operating without a license throughout the area. While this has been an issue for a number of years, he said it has become a larger problem than previously realized, something he believes could be tied back to the relatively low penalty for not having a license.
