A St. Louis man has been charged with sexual assault for an incident that occurred Saturday at Lincoln University's Scruggs Residence Hall, 800 Locust St.
As of Monday afternoon, Tavis Merriman, 19, was being held in the Cole County Jail. No bond amount was reported.
A Lincoln University Police Department probable cause statement said the victim went to sleep in one room of the dormitory, and that Merriman was lying on top of her when she woke up, in a different room.
The LU police statement also said Merriman told others that he had had sexual intercourse with the victim - and that he later told the LU police the same thing.
