Your Opinion: Too many "ifs' at the wrong time

Dear Editor:

Too much at stake. Too much can go wrong. Too many projects, much less a conference center. It looks like not too many researched the outcomes of conference centers. I have deep reservations about this center if this tax passes.

The conference center will be revisited over and over, even if the tax passes. The price is too high, too many "ifs" without any oversight or auditing done independently. The conference center costs for upkeep are enormous, especially if it sits empty. Who will pay these costs? That could be the next cornerstone for another tax. And, why would you build an unneeded conference center in the midst of a crumbling prison, that may or may not be upgraded by the state? No money there either.

To reiterate, it's too much, I don't believe this is the right time and/or right year for another tax. Vote no Feb. 7, they don't need a 40-plus million dollar blank credit card!
