Your Opinion: Enthused about plans for St. Mary's

Dear Editor:

I want to encourage all residents to vote yes for the Transform Jefferson City project on Feb. 7. The modest sales tax increase will fund many exciting programs. I am particularly enthusiastic about the St. Mary's annex plan. My connections with St. Mary's Health Center are very strong. I was born there, my grandmother, mother and aunt were all active members of the St. Mary's Auxiliary, I marched in the Angel Procession and worked as a Blue Bell and a Candy Striper. I am very excited about the planned repurpose of that historic property.

Jefferson City will benefit from every entity planned for the St. Mary's annex. For example, the Discovery Center will provide educational experiences for children comparable to what is available in St. Louis or Kansas City. Anyone who wants to know about a medical condition or treatment will have a great resource in the Research Center. The ability to obtain degrees in high demand areas of Culinary Arts, Nursing or Health Informatics will be provided by the partnership with Lincoln University.

Each component of the Transform Jefferson City plan was carefully developed over the past year and a half by a broad cross section of residents.

Making Jefferson City an even better place to live is the best reason to support the Transformation project.

Please vote yes on Feb. 7.
