When I think about the Transformation proposal, I remember the old aphorism to the effect that if one is not moving forward toward his goals, he is probably moving backward. The thought applies to individuals, to organizations and even to political entities like Jefferson City.
The combination of a general economic recession and shrinking state government has brought our city to a near standstill. And that means we are at considerable risk of sliding backward. The Transform Jefferson City proposal provides a good opportunity to reverse the trend and make a bold statement of confidence in the future of our city.
A few years ago the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce adopted the "Pride and Progress" slogan. The two are intertwined - we are unlikely to have one without the other.
It seems to me that the Transform Jefferson City proposal is the best way available to us today to achieve the goals implied by the "Pride and Progress" slogan.
