When the familiar rumble of a large, refrigerator truck packed with fresh and frozen foods nears the Trinity Lutheran Church parking lot in Russellville, volunteers line up and client conversations cease.
The Central Missouri Food Bank sends the truck once a month to the Cole County stop, just as it does to six others in its 32-county coverage area. Rural areas tend to have fewer grocery stores with higher prices, little public transportation and a higher senior citizen population.
The United Way of Central Missouri partner agency provides the goods and the community pulls together the volunteer network.
