After more than one month on the informal calendar, a proposal to vacate Chestnut Street to Lincoln University has died.
Third Ward Councilman Bob Scrivner opted to let the bill die on the informal calendar because of a number of "unanswered questions" and the impact it could have with the planned construction for the Lafayette Street interchange, which will close U.S. 50 for a short period and divert traffic to city streets.
The interchange with the Rex Whitton Expressway is a cost-share project with the city, county and state. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2014.
With that prospect, Scrivner said he wanted to be cautious about the potential impact on traffic patterns in the area, especially with a proposal to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Dunklin and Lafayette streets in 2013.
