For more than a year, business owners along a stretch of East McCarty Street have put up with being penned in from one side or blocked out from another. They've heard customer complaints, and they've had a few themselves.
But all in all, a sampling of business owners generally had a unified message for the city, county and their contractor for the $4.1 million street project: Thumbs up.
"Beautiful!" summed up Tom Graessle, owner of Graessle's Sales & Service, 2222 E. McCarty St. However, he and others are quick to add that it came with a cost. With the economy still struggling, it made a tough year even tougher.
