Your Opinion: Faith in men, parties, unions misplaced

Dear Editor:

I pray that we are beginning to see an awakening in our country to the not-so-covert intention of those in power to take control of our lives.

Hopefully the days of powerful unions are coming to an end. Just like our government - which was established with a goal to protect the rights and freedoms of the individual, but has now grown in power beyond the constraints of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution - so also have unions grown beyond their initial intent.

Our democratic republic was established as the greatest nation on earth because it put the citizens in control of our own lives. Unions were established by those working individuals who joined together to receive fair wages for their produce and/or labor. However, in both cases the power of the government and unions has grown to benefit those in the positions of control and no longer have a concern for the citizens or workers except for the fact that they are the source of their income.

This income is needed to support their endless desire to support their corrupt agendas of control and wasting of taxes and dues on flamboyant living and paying favors to their elite cronies.

I pray that we will stop putting our faith in men, parties, and unions, and turn back to seeking the God who so graciously blessed us by allowing this great nation to be established.

I praise Gov. Brownback of Kansas for his calling his state to a day of repentance and prayer. We need to see every governor and the president following suit just as our founding fathers and many presidents in history have done.

We just might move the heart of God to have mercy and bring healing and unity to our nation again.
