Madison Street is scheduled to close to all traffic Sunday through Tuesday, as work continues on construction of a new sanitary sewer.
The street is scheduled to close at 6 a.m. Sunday from Rex Whitton Expressway to East Cedar Way. Motorists are encouraged to use Jefferson Street instead and detour signage will be posted throughout the area.
Weather and construction progress permitting, work should be completed and Madison Street should be reopend by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Roger Schwartze, director of public works, said the Madison Street closure will allow crews to construct a tie-in to the sewer system. The work, which began more than one week ago, was slowed because crews hit more rock than anticipated, he said.
Once the closure is complete, Schwartze said the work should wrap up a few days later.
