Dear Editor:
I just want to say that I am a little shocked, and slightly disturbed, by the fact that this year's Capitol Caroling, put on by Jefferson City Public Schools, had a music line up that was predominantly Christian-focused music.
If you choose to believe in a religion, that's your business, and more power to you, but please don't spend my tax dollars to teach the youth of America religious music.
I don't think the public schools have any business teaching Christmas carols to the students that have a religious theme. What ever happened to separation of church and state?
What do the students who are another religion other than Christianity, or atheistic students, that wish to participate in the school's music program, but do not wish to sing music that goes against their religious principles or lack thereof? I just feel that this content is out of place, and should not have been performed.
If you want to sing religious Christmas carols, do it at church, or on your own time, but don't use the taxes I pay for things like that.
