Grand jury indicts former jail clerk

The Cole County grand jury has indicted a former county jail clerk on one count of felony stealing.

Gina Freeman, 35, was charged with stealing nearly $50,000 from two accounts she managed between May 1, 2011, and May 17, 2012.

When questioned by investigators, Freeman said she took the money from bonds received by the jail and inmate accounts.

She is scheduled to be in court next month and is free on $75,000 bond.
