Blair Oaks closes out night with victory against Versailles

WARDSVILLE - Thursday's wrestling action started with the equivalent of two undercard events, followed by the main event.

It couldn't have worked out more perfectly in terms of setting up the drama.

After Blair Oaks and Versailles both handled the Missouri Military Academy with ease in dual matches, the Falcons and Tigers then squared off to finish off the evening.

The decision was in doubt until the second-to-last match, with Blair Oaks eventually emerging with an entertaining 41-39 victory.

"That was tough," Blair Oaks coach Tim Karsten said. "We kind of had the matches we knew we would win and then two tossup matches. (Those guys) had wrestled last week (at the Knob Noster Tournament) and had each lost by a point or two, so we knew it could go either way."

Versailles coach Shawn Brantley echoed those sentiments.

"We knew it was going to be close and there were a couple matches that could go either way," he said. "One of them went our way and one didn't, basically."
