Documentary on area veterans earns national recognition

December 4th, 2012 in News

Last December, Fulton public information officer Darin Wernig marked the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor with a documentary featuring the memories and experiences of local veterans and residents from Dec. 7, 1941.

The city recently announced that "Fulton and World War II" has garnered attention from a wider audience, earning third place in the documentary category of the Government Programming Awards through the National Association of Telecommunication Officers of America.

"One of the great things about my job is being able to tell stories like this. This was a great experience and I appreciated being able to do this," Wernig said.

He said he was inspired to make "Fulton and World War II" in part due to the high rate of participation by area veterans in the Honor Flight program.
