ST. LOUIS (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison for ending a St. Louis police officer's career in a shooting.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/VdczT6 ) reports that 26-year-old Arvon Brown was sentenced Friday in front of a courtroom packed with city officers. The sentence amounts to 30 years.

Joseph Haman was wounded in May 2010 after stopping a vehicle. Authorities say Haman was speaking with the driver when Brown fired at him from the back seat.

In September, Brown admitted the shooting. But he claimed he was not lucid when he fired because he was under the influence of marijuana and ecstasy. He said it felt as if he were playing a video game.

Brown was convicted of charges including assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
