Helias girls battle past Rolla

After several adventures on the basepaths in Thursday's season opener, the Helias Lady Crusaders finally got some plays to go their way.

Thanks to two good plays by runners in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Crusaders were able to squeak out the deciding run in a 2-1 win over Rolla at Duensing Field.

"The girls kept battling, and that's all I can ask," Helias coach Dan Campbell said.

With two outs and no one on, Hailey Weavers hustled on a ground ball to short, forcing a high throw to first. As the ball sailed away, Weavers raced for second and beat the throw to put the winning run in scoring position.

"That was a big play, her getting to second on that wild throw," Campbell said. "That was huge."
