Five Jefferson City police officers, one Cole County deputy and three residents were awarded special citations earlier this month, including medals of honor and a Purple Heart.
Officer Frank H. Richards received the meritorious service award for his attention to a 16-year-old male who had sustained an accidental laceration in his left leg in January.
Officer Curtis B. Bohanan received the medal of valor for his actions during the shooting at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in December. Bohanan exchanged gunfire with the suspect, striking him. Cole County Deputy Chris Suchanek received a certificate of appreciation for his role in the same incident.
