School Board to set property tax rate

For the fourth year in a row, Jefferson City's School Board will be asked to keep the same property tax rate as last year's - even though state law would allow them to raise the rates.

The board must report the property tax rate to the Cole and Callaway county collectors - along with all other taxing jurisdictions - so tax bills can be prepared and mailed, then paid, before the end of the year.

And Jason Hoffman, the district's chief financial officer, said last week the board will be asked to OK a tax levy of $3.6770 for each $100 assessed property value.
