Olympics offer mission opportunity to locals

August 12th, 2012 in News

A large crowd gathered in Gerrards Cross, England, to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics July 28. Several Mid-Missouri residents used the event as a mission opportunity on behalf of their churches.

Standing among more than 6,000 British spectators, about 20 Mid-Missourians couldn't help but tear up and cheer as they watched the United Kingdom's athletes enter the Olympic stadium across town for the opening ceremonies two weeks ago.

Run the Race had organized the family entertainment, barbecue and bar on the Gerrards Cross Common, and members from Mid-Missouri churches, including Memorial Baptist and First Baptist-California, were there to help the London suburb celebrate.

Tricia Timpe and Calvin Brown helped with child care. Brad Pierce helped with security and technology. And Kaelli Pierce went beyond the Gerrards Cross activities to do community service, including fresh paint at parks and playgrounds.
